ONE SQUARE METER

Black and white Applique Cape

This project was a chance to scale up our embroidery. The brief was to make a piece of needlework at leas one meter square. It could be anything our heart desired in any technique we learned at HV. I desired a cape and attacked the project head on. How could I fill as large a surface required by this cape in the time that was available to me. The given answer was of course machine embroidery and applique.

I was struggling with colour scheme and in the end opted to work in black and white focusing on texture as opposed to colour. I opted for mat on mat - I wanted the black to be void of light and a shiny surface would take away from that.
